Mocha Beetroot Performance Balls

Recipe in collaboration with Power Super Foods. 

These delicious balls are perfect for active people wanting a boost of energy before or during exercise. They contain beetroot powder which can help raise nitric oxide levels in the body, helping to increase blood flow, improve lung function , and strengthen muscle contraction, improving overall cardiorespiratory endurance and performance. We have also included raw cacao powder which is rich in bioactive flavanols that have been linked to improved blood flow and lower inflammation. When you add to these some delicious Holy Joe Cold Drip Coffee, you have the performance benefits of caffeine which come from its influence on the central nervous system and resulting reduced perception of effort (exercise “feels” easier) and/or reduced perception of fatigue. With a little protein being provided from the almonds & hemp seeds and carbohydrate from the dates, you have a well rounded, high performance snack for anyone from the elite athlete to the weekend warrior. Oh and they taste delicious!

 

INGREDIENTS

We use all organic ingredients.

Vegan, Gluten Free, Dairy Free. 

TO MAKE

  1. Add all the ingredients except the almonds, to a high speed food processor and blend until combined into a dough like mixture.
  2. Add the almonds and pulse a few times until they are roughly chopped and combined through the mix.
  3. Form mixture into walnut sized balls with damp hands.
  4. Place on parchment paper in a glass storage container, and leave in freezer for 3-4 hours or overnight.
  5. Roll the balls in beetroot powder or cacao powder (or both) and store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week, or freezer for up to 3 months, until ready to eat.
